President

Raul Josiah is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) and a Certified Addiction Counselor II (CAC II). Raul graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors in Sociology and Minor in Psychology and Bowie State University with a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology.  Raul has also extensive education, training, and experience in the field of substance abuse, addictions and motivational interviewing.  He has worked in the mental health field for fifteen years with both youth & adults in both Washington, DC and Maryland.  Raul was specially recognized for a Psychoeducational Workshop on Dynamics and Theory of Group Psychotherapy in August 2015.

Raul enjoys working within a variety of settings such as inpatient psychiatric, outpatient, community-based, the juvenile and adult justice systems, drug courts, the state health and human services system, and local school systems.

Raul is known for his positive temperament with aspirational and effective communication.  Raul is an Integrative Psychotherapist that utilizes a variety of therapies, techniques and interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Person-Centered, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Family and Play..  Raul works with a wide range of issues, including ADHD, Depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anxiety, PTSD, Personality Disorders, Self-Esteem/Self-Empowerment, Grief and Loss and Relationship/Family concerns, to name a few.

In his spare time, Raul enjoys reading, sports/weight lifting, traveling, and spending time with his family.  He hopes one day to win America’s Top Chef!

Chandra A. Chester, LCSW-C

Vice President

Chandra is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 17 years of experience. Chandra graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. She also graduated from University of Maryland School of Social Work with her Master’s.

Chandra has trained under Lisa Ferentz at the Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy Education and Training where she has completed Level One and Level Two of Trauma Training. In addition, she completed a certification in Traumatology from the Intensive Trauma Therapy, Inc. in Morgantown, West Virginia. She also completed the Level One Internal Family Systems Therapy training through the Center for Self Leadership.

Chandra has been passionate about the treatment of trauma since her undergraduate education. She has been intrigued by the resiliency of people who have suffered significant and life changing trauma and finds great satisfaction in assisting clients in healing from these traumatic experiences through trauma informed care. Chandra has extensive experience in treating children, adolescents, and adults who have suffered from trauma, depression, dissociation, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, and many other diagnoses.  In addition, she has considerable experience working with the LGBTQ community.  She also has a desire to work with military families dealing with combat PTSD.

Chandra spends her free with her family and friends. She enjoys traveling, karaoke, fishing, crabbing, music, dancing, writing and cooking. She is currently working on a book and hopes to publish in 2017.

Welcome to Families First Counseling and Psychiatry. As the medical director of FFCP I provide direct psychiatric assessment and treatment services along with providing clinical and program oversight. I am originally from Wisconsin where I completed medical school. My post-graduate training includes child, adolescent, adult, and forensic psychiatry and I am board certified in child, adolescent, and general psychiatry. My experience includes providing school mental health services in Baltimore, Maryland; working as a consultant to the D.C. Superior Court for children under juvenile justice jurisdiction and child and family services agency jurisdiction; hospitalist at an inpatient program, running the child and adolescent program; and most recently as a member of the Greater Washington Psychiatry and Counseling team working with clients in age ranging from 4 to 96.
